Argument:
The distribution of the fossil record during Noah's Flood can best be explained by ecological zonation. The lower strata would contain animals that lived at lower elevations (fish, marine invertabrates). The further up the geologic column you go, you next run into boundary animals, those living at water's edge (reptiles/amphibians). Finally, you would find mammals and birds

Response:
This is contrary to the actual fossil record
Many animals appear at most levels of strata. Corals and claims appear in all levels
Whales live in the same ecological zone as fish, but they do not appear in all the layers that contain fish
Birds do not appear until after flying reptiles
Dinosaurs consistently appear in strata prior to modern land animals. If ecological zonation were correct, dinosaurs and modern mammals would be together
Grasses live in almost all land areas, but they are only near the top of the geological record, after other land animals and plants
This model does not explain how marine ecologies are buried on top of land ecologies. For example, in North America, there is a record of fifty-five cycles of marine layers interleaved with terrestrial layers
